Library Status Terms Defined

BILLED
  • Library item is overdue by 28 days or more. The billed status is revoked when the item is returned. If not returned, it becomes a candidate for replacement.
BIND/PROCESS
  • Item is the process of being bound and prepared for entry into the Library collection.
BY PERMISSION-LIBRARIAN
  • The item is non-circulating and usually in a rare-materials section of the Library, which is not open to Library patrons. Materials such as manuscripts, manuscript facsimiles, and very old and/or rare scores and books fit this category. To view the item in the Library, the user is required to fill out a request form and submit it along with a Juilliard ID card before a Librarian can retrieve the item for viewing. The forms are available at the Reference Desk. ID cards will be given back upon return of the undamaged item. Making photocopies of pages from these items is not permitted. If an item is not under copyright, the user can request that the Library produce a reproduction, subject to condition of the original.
CLMS RETD
  • The item appears to be missing, but the last borrower believes that the item was returned. Until located, or determined missing, the item will moved to the ON SEARCH category (see below).
DUE [date]
  • The date that an item that is currently checked out is due.
IN TRANSIT
  • Designates that an item is currently en route to the Tianjin Juilliard School Library, or is in preparation for shipment to the TJS Library
LOST AND PAID
  • An item that was lost and paid for by a Library user and is in the process of being replaced.
ON HOLDSHELF
  • Indicates that an item is on hold for the Library patron that made a request for it.
ON SEARCH
  • When an item is apparently missing, the Library will make several attempts to locate the item before declaring it actually lost. The designation ON SEARCH will appear in the catalog for items currently under the searching process.
RECENTLY RETURNED
  • This status appears for items that have been returned and checked-in during the last 12 hours when the Library is open. Usually these items are waiting to be reshelved and so it is helpful to ask at the circulation desk if the item may be there prior to shelving.
REPAIR
  • When an item is damaged, it may be designated for repair and will be kept in the technical services area of the Library while undergoing repair.
